Saint Stanislaus College senior thinclad William Weber signed a National Letter on Intent to run track and field with Millsaps College on Wednesday, May 22nd.
Weber, a three-sport letter winner in football, soccer and track and field, commented, "I love to pole vault but I really didn't get serious about it until recently. This a tremendous opportunity to be able to continue an sport that I love and get better at a particular discipline, continue to train and stay in shape."
William will join his older brother, Thomas, wearing the purple and white of the Majors who graduated in 2018 and is a rising sophomore defensive end on the football team after a three-year career at SSC.
William added, "Thomas and I are very close. To have him there is a great thing. If I have questions or concerns about making something work into a schedule or anything really, he is there and can help me work it out. He is an outstanding mentor and having him there with me is invaluable."
William has been involved with the football team, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the student ministry team during his time at SSC.
SSC head coach DP Daigle commented on Weber, "I am very excited for William and I am glad he is getting a chance to compete at the next level. The leadership role he took on this year was key to our success, and his work ethic was unmatched."
Weber is expected to continue to vault at Millsaps while also becoming a part of several relays. He also plans to continue to train under Coach Erica Fraley, a 2008 Beijing Olympian, who owns the Louisiana Pole Vault Compound in Tickfaw, LA.
Weber ended, "I have had great coaches at SSC who have helped me achieve the success I have attained. They molded me in the way that was needed for the best of the team. We have achieved tremendous success and they did not waver getting us what we needed to be successful. SSC track and field was great fit for me. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity that lays ahead for me for it is one that many people do not get a chance to experience."
William completed his career at SSC with a silver medal in the pole vault at the Class 4A state track and field championships held on Monday, May 6th at Pearl High School.
He also won a bronze medal as the lead leg on the 4x200m relay at the state championships and was the anchor leg on the 4x400m relay team that placed fourth.
He set the new school record in the pole vault with a 14'2" vault earlier this season.
He is also featured in the school record book as a member of the 4x800m and sprint medley relay teams.
Millsaps is a NCAA Division III school that competes in the Southern Athletic Association with Rhodes College, Centre College, Berry College, Birmingham-Southern, Olgethorpe University, Hendrix College, and the University of the South.
