Law enforcement officials survey the scene at a Bay St. Louis home after a fatal shooting early on Tuesday morning.

One man is dead after an early morning shooting in Bay St Louis, officials said.

"On Sept. 25, at approximately 12:46 a.m., officers of the Bay St. Louis Police Department responded to a residence on the 300 block of Ulman Avenue in response to a shooting," Police Chief Gary Ponthieux said in a press release Tuesday. "Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim identified as Raymond John Estapa, 36 years of age, of Bay St. Louis. Estapa was pronounced dead on scene.

"A preliminary investigation indicates that two males who knew each other engaged in a physical altercation which resulted in the shooting."

No arrests have been made, Ponthieux said.

Ponthieux said no additional suspects are being sought.

Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk was on the scene, along with the BSL Police Department and the Hancock County District Attorney's Office.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Bay St. Louis Police Department at 228 467-9222, Ponthieux said. You can contact Crimestoppers at or by telephone at 1-877-787-5898. You can also text CSTIP plus your message to 274637(CRIMES).
