Officials from Bay St. Louis and Hancock County on Tuesday celebrated the completion of the new playground equipment at Larroux Park on Dunbar Avenue.
Hancock County Grants Administrator Maureen Anderson said the park is one of four the Hancock County Board of Supervisors budgeted for in capital projects.
The other completed playgrounds are installed at Necaise and Dedeaux ball fields.
"Next week, the playground in Bayside Park is expected to be completed," she said. "They've never had a playground out there."
The total cost of the playgrounds is about $125,490 and Gulf Coast Solutions, LLC completed the installation, Anderson said.
The playground at Larroux Park came in at about $30,000, she said.
The park features swing sets and four slides and is scheduled to open the end of this week, Bay St. Louis Mayor Mike Favre said. All that's lacking is to spread the mulch, he added.
"It's going to be a great asset for this park," Favre said. "It's been missing this (playground) and hopefully we can add a few more things."
Favre said one option the city may explore is fencing off a portion of the park to make a dog park.
Hancock County Board of Supervisors President Blaine LaFontaine said last year, the county funded the installation of four new playgrounds in Catahoula, Pearlington, Leetown and Fenton.
LaFontaine said the board evaluated the cities' and county's equipment.
"Most of the equipment was aged and had reached the end of its life cycle," he said. "We see it as making an investment in recreation and enhancing parks and recreation for our families."
