Gulfport police have identified a Bay St. Louis man as the victim in a fatal shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

Delfred Lewis, Jr., was declared dead at Memorial Hospital at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. His cause of death was a single gunshot wound.

Gulfport officers were called to the shooting scene on the 600 block of 25th Street near Hewes Avenue at a little before 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police statement.

Once officers arrived, they found Lewis suffering from his wound and had him transported to the hospital before he died, police said.

Police are looking for Trellis "T.J." Burnett in connection with the case. They warned the public that Burnett should be considered "armed and dangerous," but have not yet officially named his as a suspect in Lewis' death.

Anyone with information about the shooting or Burnett’s whereabouts is asked to contact Gulfport Police at 228-868-5959. Anonymous tips can also be made to Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers online or by calling 877-787-5898.
