A 59-year-old Bay St. Louis man drowned in a pool at his Manor House apartment complex off de Montluzin Avenue Thursday night during a Fourth of July party, Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said.

Just after 9:30 p.m., when first responders arrived at the scene, they found Paul Treutel of Bay St. Louis unresponsive in the pool. A short time later, Treutel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said they had last seen Treutel sitting by himself drinking a beer on the pool ladder at the deep end.

“When they looked again they said he wasn’t there so they assumed he had went back inside,” Faulk said. “Then later they found him at the bottom of the pool."
