The Bay St. Louis Police Department is investigating the death of a 23-year-old Petal man, whose body was found in a canal Thursday near Bayou View Drive.
Bay St. Louis Police Chief Mike De Nardo said Friday that Jeremy Jordan was reported missing about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
Jordan had apparently been hanging out with friends who decided to take a swim in the canal.
When Jordan did not return, his friends called authorities, De Nardo said.
De Nardo said the dive team from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources was called to assist.
A few hours later, Jordan's body was discovered between two sailboats in the canal, Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said Thursday.
De Nardo said the case could be a drowning, but police are investigating all possibilities.
"We investigate all of these things the same," De Nardo said. "We are awaiting the results of the autopsy before we officially can say this was a drowning.”
