Representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Friday recognized the Bay-Waveland School District with a bronze medal at a ceremony in the Bay High Gym.
Dr. Becky Ladner, Bay-Waveland School superintendent, accepted the award on behalf of the district.
All schools in the district earned the award through the USDA Healthier US School Challenge.
The schools in the Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District earned the award by promoting good nutrition and physical activity to create healthier school environments.
All district schools have improved food and beverage choices, are teaching students about exercise and nutritious food choices, and provide opportunities for physical activities and support school wellness policies, Ladner said.
Sponsored by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, the program supports First Lady Michelle Obama's “Let's Move” campaign by encouraging all schools to take a leadership role in helping students to make healthier eating and physical activity choices that will last a lifetime.
