A Hancock County couple was arrested last week after they allegedly drove a man to the Veteran's Affairs Hospital, took his vehicle, and then ran up several charges on his credit cards.
Hancock County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said Tuesday that Denzel Collins, 30, and Christy Stiglet, 34, were charged with exploiting of a vulnerable adult.
According to Grannan, Collins and Stiglet had befriended the victim a few months ago.
The victim, a Vietnam veteran with numerous medical problems, recently became ill and Collins and Stiglet offered to take him to the VA in Biloxi, Investigator Stephanie Stewart said Tuesday.
After they dropped him off, Collins and Stiglet allegedly took the man's vehicle and credit cards, officials said.
The victim was admitted to the hospital for several days, and during that time, Collins and Stiglet used his vehicle and made several purchases with his credit card, Grannan said.
The vehicle was later discovered abandoned at a gas station in Diamondhead.
Collins, who was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, was transported back to MDOC custody after his arrest.
Stiglet is being held under a $25,000 bond.
