The Diamondhead City Council on Tuesday approved Clovis Reed to become the new city manager.
Reed will officially begin working on Sept. 1.
The search for a new city manager began three months ago, when the city cut ties with former manager Richard Rose.
The city council received more than 20 resumes for the position and after a lengthy review process, the city council approved Reed on Tuesday.
"Mr. Reed has an excellent work history and we think he will do a fine job," Mayor Tommy Schafer said Wednesday.
Reed, an Ole Miss grad, has worked in municipal, county, and state government for more than 25 years.
He was formerly the county administrator for Desoto, Claiborne, and Rankin counties, and the assistant director for the Mississippi Department of Environment Quality.
Reed said Friday that he is "excited" about the opportunity to work for Diamondhead.
He said he feels that his experience as a county administrator will allow him to adjust quickly to Diamondhead's city manager form of government.
"It is going to be very similar," Reed said. "It is kind of like being a CEO of a corporation and the council is the board of directors."
Reed said his goals are to help bring economic development to the city of Diamondhead and to assist the city council to encourage transparent government.
Reed currently lives in Brandon, but will be moving to Diamondhead, he said.
"My wife and family are excited about moving to Diamondhead," he said. "We have found a place to rent right now, which will give us a little bit more time to look at the market for a permanent home."
