The owners of a popular nightclub in Lakeshore were arrested Saturday for allegedly operating their business without proper permits.
Mississippi Department of Revenue Spokeswoman Kathy Waterbury said Tuesday that Dana Marie Johnston, 49, and Harlis Eugene Johnston, 51, owners of Cricket's Honkie Tonk, were both arrested on Saturday after a raid by the state Alcohol and Beverage Control (ABC) office.
The Johnstons were both charged with possession of alcoholic beverages for sale without a license and possession of alcoholic beverages on beer licensed premises.
Both charges are misdemeanors.
Waterbury said the Johnstons did not possess an ABC license to sell liquor.
A beer license, she said, only allows businesses to sell beer and wine less than five percent by weight, she said.
The Johnstons were booked at the Hancock County Jail and later released on respective $2,000 bonds.
ABC agents also seized a large assortment of alcoholic beverages, she said.
