A local contractor suffered "serious" injuries Friday when he fell about 20 feet down an elevator shaft.
Bay St. Louis Police Detective Gary Hudgens said Friday that his department received a report of an injured worker at a residence on Ireland Street at 11:57 a.m. Friday.
When police and fire personnel arrived, they learned that Chuck Baber, 69, of Baber and Sons Inc. had fallen down an elevator shaft.
"Mr. Baber and another worker were installing an elevator at the residence," Hudgens said. "They were standing on a board and the board broke. The other employee was able to grab onto a rope, but Mr. Baber fell about 20 feet down the shaft."
Baber was taken to Hancock Medical Center, but later air-lifted to a hospital in Louisiana, Hudgens said. He suffered "serious" injuries, Hudges said. An update on his condition was not available by press time Friday.
