U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo on Tuesday presented a long overdue Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal & Bronze Star attachment and Merchant Marine Vietnam Service Medal to Sgt. Kenneth Duncan of Waveland. Dozens turned out for the ceremony, which took place in front of Waveland City Hall. Duncan volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1965, serving three consecutive tours in Vietnam. During his tour, he was assigned as a Huey aircraft "door gunner." He received his Purple Heart for injuries suffered during the Tet Offensive. He processed out of the Army on Sept. 8, 1968. Two days later, he joined the Merchant Marines, serving five more years. After 9-11, he worked in Kandahar, Afghanistan as an Army contractor. He was joined at Tuesday's ceremony by his daughters Carissa and Shauntell, son-in-law Dennis, three granddaughters and his brother Stuart.
