Firefighters from several local departments battled this blaze Thursday in Diamondhead. The fire caused heavy damage and left a family of three homeless.
A Diamondhead family was left homeless Thursday after a fire caused significant damage to the two-story house.
Diamondhead Fire Chief Jerry Dubuisson said Friday that his department was notified of a structure fire at 6614 Alii Place about 11:50 a.m. Thursday.
Dubuisson said nobody was inside the home when the fire started.
"The lady who owns the home was at work and her two sons, who are young adults, had went to get something to eat," Dubuisson said. "When they returned, the house was on fire."
Dubuisson said the fire most likely began in an upstairs area in the back of the home.
Firefighters from Diamondhead, Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Kiln, Fenton, West Hancock, and Harrison County departments all assisted in fighting the blaze.
Dubuisson said the fire caused heavy damage to the upstairs portion of the home, but downstairs areas only suffered minor smoke damage.
No other homes were affected by the blaze, he said.
Dubussion said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the case is still under investigation.
