The Bay St. Louis Police Department arrested three individuals last week in connection a new drug initiative with the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
BPD Narcotics Investigator James Burch said Monday Homeland Security has been assisting BPD in several local drug investigations.
Last week, Burch said, information gathered by a joint-operation led to the interception a vehicle which allegedly contained methamphetamine and firearms, Burch said.
The occupants of the vehicle, Matthew Workman, 25, and Samuel Dupree, 25, were both arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute. Officers also located a loaded pistol, he said.
In addition, BPD officers on Monday made another arrest drug-related arrest. According to Burch, BPD was notified Monday of a disturbance at a residence on Washington Street. After arriving, officers conducted a safety sweep of the home was conducted and officers discovered meth, paraphernalia, and two handguns.
Timothy Hackbarth, 34, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
"We had been receiving information about the residence and this subject," Burch said. "Patrol units did an outstanding job finding the drugs and weapons."
Burch said BPD is currently working "several" cases alongside Homeland Security and more arrests may be forthcoming soon.
