Hancock County authorities are investigating the "mysterious" death of a Lizana woman whose body was dropped off at the Hancock Medical Center emergency room on Tuesday morning.
Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass said Tuesday that the Bay St. Louis Police Department was notified Tuesday that someone had dropped off a woman's body at HMC.
According to Bass, an older model light blue Suburban pulled up at the emergency room about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. The driver went inside and told staff that a dead person was inside the vehicle.
Medical staff went to the vehicle and found Kristen Cuevas, 22, of Lizana, deceased.
They removed her body from the vehicle and the man got back in the Suburban and drove away, Bass said.
The man is described as a white male, mid-30s, about six feet tall and 160 pounds with brown hair.
The driver, who is being considered a "person of interest" was located later on Tuesday questioned at the sheriff's, Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said.
Police did not release the man's name by press time Tuesday.
"We believe he is the person who was driving the Suburban," Grannan said.
The sheriff's office and the Waveland Police Department are all assisting Bay St. Louis in the case, Bass said.
Bass said the first thing investigators are trying to determine is where Cuevas died.
Grannan said Cuevas was autopsied on Tuesday, but the results were "inconclusive."
Test results from the autopsy will not be available for a few weeks, he said.
"There are no obvious signs of trauma, but we still have a lot of questions," Grannan said.
Grannan said if anyone has any additional information on Cuevas' death, they can call Hancock County Central Dispatch at 228-255-9191.
