Hancock County residents can now order custom-made car tags through the Hancock County Tax Office and the Hancock High School athletic office.
According to a press release from the HHS athletic office, the state has approved the production of new Hancock Hawk car tags.
A portion of the funds generated by the car tags will go to the school's athletic department.
The school is currently taking applications for the first 300 tags which will be produced.
The specialty car tag will cost $31. $24 of that will be returned to the school.
The $31 only covers the tag. Residents will still need to go through the tax office and pay their annual state tag fee, Hancock County Tax Assessor/Collector Jimmie Ladner said Tuesday.
To qualify for the program, HHS must have 300 tags pre-ordered.
The deadline for applications for the new tag is May 1, HHS Athletic Director Jamie Sisco said Tuesday.
If the school does not meet its goal of 300 tags, then the money will be refunded to the residents who sign up, Sisco said.
