On Saturday "Real Housewives of Atlanta"star Phaedra Parks visited Bay St. Louis' Bay Books to promote her new book, "Secrets of a Southern Belle." Bay Books owner Jeremy Burke and wife Kristen Tusa, pictured above with Parks, said she was one of the nicest authors they've ever hosted.
This past weekend, Bay St. Louis' downtown bookstore Bay Books brought a little Southern glamour to Old Town.
Phaedra Parks, one of the stars of the reality show "Real Housewives of Atlanta", paid a visit to the bookstore to educate women on how to be a "Southern Belle".
Parks was in town promoting her new book "Secrets of the Southern Belle: How to be Nice, Work Hard, Look Pretty, Have Fun, and Never Have an Off Moment."
"She was the most personable author Bay Books has had," Bay Books owner Jeremy Burke said. "She made time for everyone and talked to each one individually.
"We had about 200 people show up for the event."
Burke said his wife, Kristen Tusa, is a fan of the show and came up with the idea to have Parks visit the store.
"My wife watches every show," Burke said. "She e-mailed Parks, told her about Bay St. Louis and asked her if she would come."
Burke said that fans from Mobile, Hattiesburg and New Orleans came to meet Parks.
"We even had tourists visiting here from Minnesota and Ohio," Burke said.
"With all the drama that goes on on that show," "Housewives" fan Courtney Thomas said, "she was very down-to-earth and genuine.
"I got there before four p.m. and there was a line that continued out the door and down the sidewalk."
Thomas said she watches the show every week with her mother and nephew.
"It's a time that the whole family gets together and gets a laugh," Thomas said.
Parks told her fans that Bay St. Louis reminded her of her hometown, said Thomas.
"When she came in," Thomas said, "she said she loved it here. Her exact words were "Your town is adorable and this is my second favorite town."
"When it was my turn to meet her, she was very curious about Bay St. Louis, asking how many high schools and about growing up here."
"Housewives" centers around the lives of six women from Atlanta who juggle families, careers and jam-packed social calendars, according to the Bravo website.
Parks is an entertainment lawyer and is the managing partner at the Parks Group P.C., a law firm that caters to entertainers and athletes.
She is married to Apollo Nida and has two sons; Ayden and Dylan.
Her Phine Body Fitness videos are Amazon bestsellers and she is working on another video focusing on prenatal workouts.
Parks is also a full-time student, studying mortuary science.
The show airs on the Bravo channel on Sundays at 7 p.m. central time.
