A former Hancock County teacher is scheduled to appear in Hancock County Circuit Court next week to answer to two counts of sexual battery.
Hiram "Jay" Coker, 43, is scheduled to appear in Hancock County Circuit Court next week for an arraignment.
Coker was indicted on Nov. 22, during the middle of the last grand jury session.
According to the indictment, Coker allegedly had improper sexual relations with a girl who was under 16 years old on May 1 and May 31, 2012.
After receiving a complaint from school administrators last year, deputies from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office arrested Coker last April and charged him with "sexual battery while being in a position of trust or authority over a student."
Coker was an English teacher and drama instructor at Hancock High School.
Additional investigation into Coker's activities resulted in a similar charge in Harrison County.
Records show that Coker has also been indicted on the charge in Harrison County.
Coker has been incarcerated at the Hancock County Jail since his arrest on April 11, 2013.
It is unclear if he has retained an attorney.
If he has not retained an attorney, he will most likely be appointed a public defender at next week's hearing and a trial date will be set.
