OLA falls to Sacred Heart 2-1 in OT

The Our Lady Academy Crescents ended their season for the second consecutive year with a loss in the Class 1A/2A/3A South State championship game. And, for the second straight year the Crescents fell to the Lady Crusaders of Sacred Heart. OLA missed on a 14th appearance in the state finals falling by the score of 2-1 in overtime Wednesday evening in Hattiesburg.
OLA’s Abby Gollott scored in the 76th minute of regulation time off an assist by Tiffany Jones. However, Sacred Heart knotted the score at 1-1 during the extended time in regulation.
Both teams went through the first 10-minute overtime period with no scoring. However, in the final two minutes of the second 10-minute overtime period, Sacred Heart netted the game winner.
OLA played in every state final from 2000-12 and has won eight state soccer titles. The Crescents finish with an overall record of 16-3-2.
Sacred Heart defeated OLA last year and went on to win the Class 1A/2A/3A state title. The defending state champions will play South Pontotoc for the state championship at Clinton High School on Saturday, February 8th at 9:30am.
