There's a new tourist attraction in the works for Bay St. Louis.
Representatives of Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis announced Wednesday that they have broken ground on a new addition to the pool area.
A 350 feet long Lazy River is being built.
"In 2011, we thought about what amenities we could have to set us apart," Hollywood Casino BSL Senior Director of Marketing Rikki Tanenbaum said Wednesday. "We wanted something to keep our guests busy, especially those guests who don't frequent the casino floor.
"This past year, the stars aligned and we were able to make it happen."
The travel time around the river will be five to seven minutes long and the river will include a walk-in entry pool, a swim-up bar and center sun deck with hot tub, officials said.
"This will be available to our hotel guests," Tanenbaum said. "RV park guests will be allowed use with a small fee. There will be a limited number of armbands available per room or reservation.
"We want people to say, "I wanna come to Bay St. Louis and I want to relax.'"
"We are excited about our new amenity," General Manager of Hollywood Casino, BSL Chett Harrison said Wednesday. "With our newly-renovated hotel, updated casino, Arnold Palmer signature golf course, a top 100 Good Sam RV Park and now a Lazy River, we are well-positioned for long-term success and a strong tourism partner for the Mississippi Gulf Coast."
The Lazy River is expected to be completed and open by late Spring 2014.
