Officials from the Hancock County School District announced on Wednesday the resignation of South Hancock Elementary's principal Jenny Seymour.
Seymour was principal at South Hancock Elementary for two and a half years and assistant principal at East Hancock for three years.
Seymour began her new position as Director of Curriculum and Professional Development for the Bay-Waveland School District on Wednesday.
"It's very bittersweet for me,"Seymour said Thursday. "Both districts I consider home.
"South Hancock is very close to my heart, I'm very torn about leaving my babies."
Seymour is a 1991 graduate of Bay High School. Following high school, she attended Pearl River Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi earning a Bachelor and Masters degree in education.
"I'm currently working on my doctorate in administration at USM," Seymour said.
Prior to working for the Hancock School District, Seymour taught for 15 years at Waveland Elementary.
"It's nice to return," Seymour said. "It's like returning home. This is just a natural progression for me.
"I have a love for education and it's only natural to want to help impact the children. I want to help make Bay-Waveland an A district."
Seymour's new duties includes: Working with administration and teachers making the transition to common core curriculum, response to intervention process regarding students who are struggling, ordering resources and textbooks from state level, and planning and developing professional development regarding common core
"One goal I have is to inform the community about common core and what kind of impact it will have," Seymour said. "There seem to be a lot of misconceptions about this new curriculum and I want to make sure they know what it is all about."
Seymour is keeping the tiger tradition in the family with her return to the BWSD district.
"My husband Will is the district's athletic director,"Seymour said. "My son Wes is a junior at Bay High, daughter Jill is a freshman and youngest son Walker attends Waveland Elementary."
"I'm very proud to return home, I've been impressed by my first few days here and it's a pleasure to work here."
"Mrs. Seymour worked for a number of years in curriculum and instruction as a teacher and principal," Bay-Waveland Superintendent Rebecca Ladner said Friday. "We are delighted to welcome her to the Bay-Waveland School District team.
"She will work closely with the principals and teachers in the district in the area of curriculum and instruction."
"Mrs. Seymour will definitely be missed," Hancock School District's Superintendent Alan Dedeaux said Wednesday. "She was an outstanding principal and is going to be missed. I wish her all the best."
Hancock Elementary's Assistant Principal Rose Jenkins assumed Seymour's duties on Wednesday.
