The Waveland Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after the body of a homeless man was discovered in an abandoned home Wednesday evening.
Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said Thursday that the victim has been identified as David Bourgeois, 58, of Hancock County.
Faulk said an autopsy was performed Thursday and the case has been ruled a homicide. Faulk said he could not release any additional details on the death and forwarded all questions to the Waveland Police Department.
WPD Chief David Allen said Thursday his investigators are following up on several leads and they have identified a person of interest.
Allen did not identify who the person of interest.
Waveland Police Officers were seen placing crime scene tape around the house, an adandoned structure across from Hancock Bank and near Pinky's Pawn shop in Waveland.
Faulk said Bourgeois was most likely staying in the abandoned home during the recent cold snap.
He said it appeared that he had been dead for several days.
Bourgeois had been arrested many times in the past ten years mostly petty crimes such as public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and contempt of court. He was known for riding his bicycle up and down highway 90 in Waveland and Bay St. Louis.
