What once started out as a partnership has turned into much more. Last year, faculty and students at North Bay Elementary School (206 Pine Street) in Bay St. Louis, decided to raise funds for Make-A-Wish® Mississippi & honor one of their fellow classmates, Taylor Bush, by participating in the organization’s annual walk.
Taylor was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Taylor and her family were unaware of her ability to qualify for a wish, but her school and classmates who have lived with her battle against her illness realized if she had been suffering with her illness that their must be many other kids right her on the Coast that are too – so they sprang into action, raising enough money to grant a wish to a local child.
It was at the school’s own walk that Make-A-Wish became aware of Taylor & her condition.
Shortly after, Taylor received word that she would be receiving a wish & without hesitation Taylor quickly told volunteers just exactly what her wish was, “ I want to go to Disneyland in California,” she said.
“It’s amazing how things work out sometimes”, said Shellie Moses, South Mississippi director of Make-a-Wish. “We knew that North Bay had accomplished an amazing feat when they raised the money but at the time it was going to be used to grant another child’s wish, that all changed when we knew that Taylor would be receiving her wish. It was a no-brainer and how incredible it truly is that they are the ones in fact who are her Adopt-A-Wish Sponsor.”
While Taylor knows she will be heading out this month to have her one true wish granted, neither she nor her school classmates knew what all was in-store.
On Tuesday, Taylor and her school mates were called into the auditorium where they learned the news and enjoyed a send-off party. Taylor celebrated with family and friends and was be presented with her itinerary, expense money and special gifts for her trip.
