The Sliver Slipper Casino, in association with Darden Music, presents "BSL Unplugged", a new concert series set for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
"BSL Unplugged" will feature national artists in an intimate setting in the Bay, at the new Longfellow Civic Center, on Court St., just off the beach.
Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Will Kimbrough, a frequent collaborator with Jimmy Buffett and honorary member of the Coral Reefer Band, will make his first ever appearance in Bay St. Louis to kick off "BSL Unplugged" on Friday, Dec, 13th. Tickets are $20 apiece, and can be purchased at the Silver Slipper Gift Shop or at the venue on the day of the show.
Talented Gulf Coast musician Libby Rae Watson, formerly of Libby Rae and the Liberaetors, will open for Kimbrough. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
Kimbrough's songs have been recorded by the likes of Buffett, Little Feat, Jack Ingram, Pat Green, Todd Snider and more. A long sought-after sideman, In addition to Buffett, Kimbrough has also collaborated and toured with many other renowned artists including Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, John Prine, Billy Joe Shaver and Mavis Staples.
“Will is a wonderful throwback to the now by-gone era of singer, songwriter, musician and entertainer," Buffett, who has recorded at least one of Kimbrough's songs on each of his last five albums, said. "Instead of substituting technology for talent, he has a unique ability to use modern day tools to produce lasting lyrics and melodys.
“On stage, he can charm a crowd whether fronting a band, or playing solo. That is why you see his songs on my albums and his face on our stage."
Kimbrough's songs recorded by Buffett include "Piece of work", "Nobody from nowhere", "Party at the end of the word" and "Hula girl at heart" as well as three tracks on the recently released "Songs from St. Somewhere".
A native of Mobile, Ala., Kimbrough was recognized in 2004 as the Instrumentalist of the Year by the Americana Music Association.
He has been recognized in the music industry as an accomplished session musician for the past two decades, after his early work in both Will and the Bushmen and as the leader of Snider's the Nervous Wrecks.
Kimbrough, now based out of Nashville, performed on stage with Buffett in a pair of major musical events recently, both televised by CMT. He was on stage for both the "Live from the Gulf Coast" concert in Gulf Shores in 2010 as well as the "Crossroads" episode that featured Buffett and the Zac Brown Band later that next year.
Due to the intimate setting of the venue, which is the same venue that hosted six time Country Music Association Musician of the Year Mac McAnally in September, fans are urged to purchase tickets early. Also, tickets purchased at the Silver Slipper include $20 of free slot play, courtesy of the Silver Slipper.
