On Wednesday, Oct. 30, Hancock Medical was named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America.
The Hancock County hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.
Hancock Medical is recognized for achieving excellence in performance on its accountability measures during 2012 for heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care measure sets. Of 3,343 eligible hospitals submitting accountability measure data to The Joint Commission, Hancock Medical is one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.
As a top performer, Hancock Medical and other hospitals across the country will be recognized in the Improving America’s Hospitals annual report, on The Joint Commission website, and on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website.
This achievement demonstrates Hancock Medical’s commitment to assuring that evidence-based interventions are delivered in the right way and at the right time.
“Hancock Medical and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., president and chief executive officer of The Joint Commission.
Hancock Medical received word of the award on Oct. 30, so the good news arrived in the same month that hospital reconstruction was completed.
“Hancock Medical has made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Hancock Medical Quality Improvement Director Lynn Necaise, MS MT (ASCP). “It’s gratifying to see our hard work result in this recognition as a top performer.”
