At last Thursday's Bay-Waveland school district school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Ladner announced the retirement of Bay High School Principal Andy Parker.
Parker has been the principal at Bay High for the past five years.
"I've spent 25 years working in public education, mostly at Gulf Coast schools," Parker said. "I'm most proud of my experience at Bay High."
"We've been fortunate to have a person as talented, dedicated and energetic as he is for the time that we did," Ladner said. "He transformed Bay High in the years he has been with us."
"Parker will be replaced by Dr. Amy Coyne, the current principal of Waveland Elementary,"Ladner said. "She is the former assistant principal at Bay High School.
"Sharon Sutherlin, the district's parent liaison and professional development coordinator, will take Coyne's place as principal of Waveland Elementary.
""For the past five years, most of my focus, personally and professionally, has been the students at this school," Parker said. "I know their names, grades, triumphs and tragedies.
"Nearly every decision I've made has had them at its core, and I know I will miss that most."
Parker said he is assuming a new position in Louisiana and will work for Achievement Network, a non-profit organization that helps schools strengthen their practice and culture of using standards and data to accelerate student learning in under-served communities.
