Sue Foster, Diamondhead's first city clerk, abruptly resigned at Tuesday's city council meeting.
City Manager Richard Rose said Wednesday that Foster presented city attorney Sean Tindall with her resignation at the meeting.
Rose said he could not give any more details about the resignation.
Foster, was appointed city clerk in May 2012 and served in that capacity until her resignation on Tuesday.
The resignation took effect immediately, officials said.
Foster was not available for comment by press time Friday.
Rose said the city will now begin the search for a new city clerk.
The clerk's duties include handling most of the day-to-day operations of the city including overseeing payroll, purchasing, and elections.
"We will discuss the options at the next meeting," Rose said. "I will proceed with whatever the council chooses."
The city council meets again on Oct. 15.
