The driver of a pick-up truck died early Thursday morning after a one-vehicle crash.
The vehicle struck a brick mail box around midnight Wednesday, and became engulfed in flames, Harrison County Sheriff Melvin T. Brisolara said in a news release.
"The one-vehicle accident occurred on Vidalia Road in the area of Sixteenth Section Road, Pass Christian," Brisolara said. "When deputies arrived, they located a 2001 Dodge Ram truck fully engulfed in flames, and the vehicle's operator was quickly located in the grass adjacent to the vehicle with severe burns and several lacerations.
"American Medical Response responded to the scene and transported the driver to Garden Park Hospital, where several hours later, he succumbed to his injuries."
The driver's name is being withheld until his family has been notified. There were no other occupants in the vehicle and the accident is still under investigation, Brisolara said.
