The Hancock County School District has named Jamie Sisco to be the new athletic director at Hancock High School.
Sisco, 30, has spent the past eight years at Ocean Springs High School coaching 'boys and girls' basketball.
"I am very excited about this opportunity," Sisco said Tuesday. "I love all sports, but I wanted to get into administration. I think that Hancock's sports programs are in a good situation."
Sisco graduated from Brookhaven High School and went on to Mississippi State.
He said he learned a lot about coaching at Ocean Springs.
"The school district and the community were very much behind the school and that was a reason for some of the successes at Ocean Springs," he said.
Hancock County Schools Superintendent Alan Dedeaux said Monday that he believes Sisco will be a good fit in Kiln.
"I think Jamie will bring a lot of energy to our sports programs," Dedeaux said. "He wants to win, but he believes that students come first before athletics."
Sisco will take over from former Athletic Director Shawn Keener who resigned last month to take a job in the insurance industry. Sisco said he wants to build on what Keener has accomplished over the past few years.
"Shawn did a good job here," Sisco said. "We have some great coaches in place and I don't have to re-invent the wheel. My main goal is to continue to build on what we have here already."
