Taylor Bush, a fifth grade student at North Bay Elementary who was recently at the center of a successful fundraising drive for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, got a wish of her own recently when she took a private tour of the New Orleans Saints training camp facilities earlier this month and met Saints wide receiver Lance Moore and running back Darren Sproles.
Taylor has a congenital heart condition that inspired her school to celebrate Team Taylor Day and sponsor a Bay Bridge Walk fundraiser earlier in April. Both events raised awareness of her condition, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and over $2,700 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
It was during Team Taylor Day that Keith Marquar, father of North Bay student Logan Marquar, learned that Taylor's favorite NFL team is the Saints and her favorite player is Drew Brees. Marquar and his business partners, former Saints players Deuce McAllister and Michael Lewis, arranged for Taylor's visit to the Saints' headquarters.
Marquar, his sons Logan and Landen, North Bay teacher Tammy Raymond, Taylor and her mother, Stephanie Bush, visited the facility on Friday, June 7. “Taylor was treated like a princess,” said Raymond. “She toured the classroom and the practice fields and threw a few footballs to Michael Lewis. She met Darren Sproles on the outside practice field, and Lance Moore introduced himself to her in the workout room.”
At the end of the tour, Taylor was surprised and delighted when she received a bag of Saints memorabilia that included an official autographed football and photo of Drew Brees.
And Taylor has another exciting event in the works. The big-hearted girl recently made a wish of her own to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and arrangements are in progress for Taylor and her family to visit Disneyland in California later this year.
