A Bay St. Louis man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly fled from a traffic stop Friday evening and threw a bag of marijuana in a canal.
Hancock County Narcotics Commander Jeremy Skinner said Monday that Rivers Fayard, 20, was charged with possession of controlled substance.
Skinner said deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Fayard was driving on Lagan Street about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Fayard apparently stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, throwing a bag containing several ounces of marijuana in a canal, officials said.
Skinner said Fayard was located the next day and arrested.
A subsequent search of a house yielded several bongs and a shotgun, but nobody else was charged in connection with the incident, officials said.
Fayard was booked at the Hancock County jail on Saturday. Records indicate that Fayard is on probation and the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on him.
