Area athletes take part in S. Mississippi all-star games

Several area student-athletes recently took part in the South Mississippi All-Star games for basketball, softball and baseball.
On Monday, May 27th SSC senior Ramone Tate played on the West squad in the boys’ senior all-star basketball game. Tate, an East Central Community College signee, scored 16 points in the 106-99 game that the East squad won. Tate helped lead the Rocks to the Division 8-4A title and the second round of the Class 4A South State tournament. Tate was named the MVP of Division 8-4A in 2013.
Bay High’s Bretta Hart played in the girls’ senior all-star basketball squad. Hart, an Ole Miss signee, scored seven points and was named MVP for the West squad who won the game 52-48. Hart helped lead the Lady Tigers to their third Class 4A girls basketball state championship in March.
The area had several participants in the Futures All-Star games held on Tuesday, May 28th at Biloxi High School. Dmitri Cook of Pass Christian, Levi Strong of Hancock and Drake Davis of St. Stanislaus all played for the boys’ West squad. The East won the game 101-70 as Cook scored 19 points, Strong 13 points and Davis had seven points.
Cook helped lead Pass Christian to the Division 8-4A title and the Class 3A state tournament in Jackson. Strong helped the Hawks continue the improvement on the hardwood in 2013. The Hawks were ousted from the Division 8-6A tournament by eventual Class 6A state tournament participant Harrison Central. Davis, a freshman, helped lead the Rocks to the Division 8-4A title and the second round of the Class 4A South State playoffs.
In the girls’ Futures’ all-star game, Bay High’s Christa Reed and Breanna Smith both suited up for the West squad. The West won the game 98-75. Reed scored a game-high 27 points and earned MVP honors while Smith scored 19 points in the win. Both girls helped the Lady Tigers claim the Class 4A state basketball championship in March with a perfect 36-0 record.
In softball, OLA head coach Bruce Blaker was named as a coach for West squad in the Futures’ All-Star game.
Demi Blaker, a Mississippi State commitment, suited up for the West for the second consecutive year.
Pass Christian head coach Robyn Killebrew was named a coach for the West squad in the Senior All-Star game.
Caitlin Beech of Pass Christian played for the West squad in the double-header. The West won game two 2-0 and lost game one 5-2. Beech collected an RBI and a single in game two.
Both OLA and Pass Christian advanced to the Class 3A state playoffs in softball.
In the Futures’ All-Star game in baseball, the Rocks had three participants – Destin Aime, Irby Dossett and Joe Guillot. All three played for the West squad and helped lead SSC to the Class 4A South State finals.
