Pearl River righthanded pitcher Christian Talley has been selected as ‘Player of the Week’ by the MACJC and NJCAA for the second consecutive week.
The Southern Miss signee earned April 29 through May 5 accolades for his 2-1 victory over Itawamba CC in the first game of the Wildcats’ MACJC best-of-three playoff series May 4. Pitching the complete game, Talley (7-4) held the Indians to a meager three hits and two walks, while striking out 11.
PRCC went on to wallop ICC 11-4 on May 5 to cinch the series and earn hosting rights to May 9-11's (Thursday through Saturday) MACJC State Tournament.
Heading in the tournament, the eighth-ranked Wildcats are 38-10 overall.
The Hancock County High alumnus also picked up the MACJC and NJCAA honor for the week of April 22-28 for his three-hit effort in the Wildcats’ 5-0 South Division victory over Jones County in Ellisville April 23. Talley struck out nine JCJC batters in his dominating performance.
Thus far in 2013, he boasts a 3.10 earned-run average in a team-high 72.2 innings on the mound. In addition, he leads the Wildcat team with 73 strikeouts. Talley’s honor marks the fourth time this season a Pearl River player has been selected state and national ‘Player of the Week.’ Catcher-slugger Krisjon Wilkerson out of St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis (March 18-24) and infielder Kyle Dolan out of Forrest County AHS (March 11-15) were the other honorees.
