Lady Pirates & Rocks are South State runners-up in track & field

The Pass Christian Lady Pirates and the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws both recorded South State runner-up finishes in team standings for Class 3A and 4A, respectively this past weekend.
The Lady Pirates tallied 105 points to finish just behind champion St. Andrew’s in the Class 3A women’s division held in Jackson on Saturday while SSC scored 70 points to finish behind champion Tylertown with 159 points.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for the state championships that will be held Saturday, May 11th and Monday, May 13th at Pearl High School.
In Class 3A, the Lady Pirates were led by double-winner Regen McGee. She won the 1600m and 3200m runs with times of 5:24.79 and 11:35.57, respectively. Her sister, Devin, won the 800m with a time of 2:25.72.
Other top qualifiers for the Lady Pirates were Alexis Dedeaux (4th – 100m hurdles, 4th – long jump), Mara Baker (3rd – 400m dash), Trinity Favre (3rd – 300m hurdles), Janae Coleman (3rd – long jump), Dominque Howard (4th – high jump) and Julia Kristman (2nd – discus).
The Lady Pirates 4x200m relay team placed fourth while the 4x100m relay team took second place. The 4x400m relay team was also second in the event.
The Pirates’ men’s team had a lone qualifier in Ian Story who placed fourth in the 3200m run. The Pirates scored five points in the meet to finish tied for 15th.
The Our Lady Academy Crescents scored 30 points to finish eighth at the Class 3A South State meet. Nikki Reeder won the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.36 and placed second in the 300m hurdles to advance in both events. Shelby McConnell placed second in the pole vault to advance. The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws had three individual event winners on Saturday at the Class 4A South State track and field meet in Tylertown. Wyatt Scott won the 3200m run with a time of 10:31.00 while Gavin Gros won the 800m run in 2:04.05. Robert Simpson won the pole vault with a vault of 12’.
Other top qualifiers for the Rocks were Miles Burnett (4th – 3200m run), Bingham Wikoff (2nd – 1600m run), Tom Burcham (4th – 1600m run), Bret Reinhart (3rd – 800m run) and Evan Hotard tied for second in the pole vault.
The SSC 4x400m relay team also placed fourth to advance to the state meet.
The Bay High Lady Tigers scored three points in the women’s division and eight points in the men’s division but did not qualify anyone for the Class 4A state meet.
The Class 3A state championships will be held in conjunction with Class 1A and Class 5A on Saturday, May 11th at Pearl High School while Classes 2A, 4A, and 6A will be held on Monday, May 13th at Pearl High School. Gates are scheduled to open at 9am and field events are slated to begin at 10am. The running events will follow the completion of the field events.
