Pass Christian Ward 1 Alderman-elect Buddy Clarke
Buddy Clarke will be the Pass Christian alderman for Ward 1 and Victor Pickich will be the Republican candidate for Ward 4 in the general election.
On Tuesday, Clarke, 58, defeated incumbent Robin Rory Rafferty, 58, in Ward 1 by an unofficial count of 172 to 135. Affidavit and absentee ballots will be counted today, but are not expected to change the outcome, said Malcolm Jones, city attorney.
"I'd like to thank everybody in Ward One. We're glad it was a clean race," Clarke said. "We're very pleased with the result."
As a professional with 30 years experience in land surveying, Clarke said he would bring his business experience to his first municipal government position.
"I want to get in there and get my feet wet and learn as I help move the city forward," he said.
Rafferty will serve out the remainder of his term until June 30.
In Ward 4, Pickich, 32, defeated Buddy Scarborough, 63, by an unofficial count of 169 to 83.
"I couldn't have done this without a lot of family and friend support," Pickich said. "It was no easy defeat beating my opponent.
Pickich said he hoped for continued support on June 4 when he will face Democrat candidate LyTanya Toomer, 41, in the general election. The other city races will also be decided at that time.
No incumbents are running for the Ward 4 seat. Huey Bang resigned earlier this year to spend more time with his family, he said at the time.
