A Waveland man was arrested in Picayune on Thursday after he allegedly mugged an elderly woman outside of the Picayune branch of Hancock Bank.
Picayune Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri said Thursday that Drin Shaw, 18, who lists a 100 Auderer Blvd. in Waveland address was charged with one count of strong-armed robbery.
According to Magri, an elderly couple was entering the bank Thursday afternoon when Shaw approached them outside.
Shaw allegedly shoved the woman to the ground and snatched an envelope, which turned out to be a book of blank checks, Margi said.
Shaw fled on foot; however, police quickly apprehended him a few hundred yards away in the parking lot of the Winn-Dixie, Margi said.
The victim was a little shaken up, but not seriously injured, Magri said.
Shaw was still in custody by press time Friday.
