Lady Tigers to play North Pontotoc for spot in 4A finals

The Bay High Lady Tigers will take their undefeated 34-0 record to Jackson and put it on the line Monday, March 4 at 6:30pm against the North Pontotoc Lady Vikings of Ecru, Mississippi. A spot in the Class 4A girls state finals is at stake for both teams.
The game will be played at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
The Lady Tigers are the top-ranked girls team in Mississippi and are the 73rd ranked team in the country according to MaxPreps, a division of CBS sports.
Bay High defeated Raymond 66-36 last Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Wilmer Seymour Gymnasium to claim the Class 4A South State championship while the Lady Vikings (25-7) fell to defending Class 4A state champion Pontotoc High School 59-49 on the same night. Pontotoc defeated Bay High in the Class 4A state semi-finals last year before winning the title.
North Pontotoc is led by 6’3” center Chelsea Mabry and senior point guard Andrea Lewis. Mabry averages 15.6 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game and has a field goal percentage of 62% for the season. Lewis chips in 16.9 points. 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Bay High counters with two Mississippi Dandy Dozen players in senior center Bretta Hart and junior guard Christa Reed. Hart averages a double-double for the Lady Tigers with 14 points and 10.2 rebounds per game while Reed leads South Mississippi in scoring with 23.4 points per game.
She also averages 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game. Terrica Williams, a senior forward, adds 11 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Jamaya Galloway, an eighth grade point guard, averages 4.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game while defensive specialist Breanna Smith records 3.4 assists and 3.1 steals per game. If the Lady Tigers win they will play for the Class 4A state title at 7pm on Friday, March 8th against the winner of the Pontotoc/Raymond game. The Lady Tigers have played in seven state tournaments under head coach Debbie Triplett including four state finals.
Bay High won the Class 4A state championship in 2003 and 2005.
