Several Mississippi businesses and employers were honored Feb. 15, during the Mississippi Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve annual awards ceremony at the Old Capitol Inn.
Each year, the men and women who serve in the National Guard and Reserves nominate their employers for recognition because of the support given them while serving their country and protecting this nation's freedom, said Mississippi Committee chairman for the ESGR, Jack Wallace.
This year's awards included the Seven Seals Award (for significant achievement or act and evidence of support over time), Above and Beyond Award (those who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of support for troops) and the Pro Patria Award, presented to a large and small company, and civic organization annually whose actions epitomize outstanding support of its Guard and Reserve employees.
Those Mississippi employers receiving the Seven Seals Award included: Domino’s Pizza of Bay St. Louis; R&F Comfort Systems of Starkville; Gray-Daniels Nissan of Brandon; Verizon Wireless of Natchez; Masonite Corporation of Laurel; District Attorney of the 2nd Judicial District in Gulfport; Access Health of Tupelo and Domino’s Pizza of Picayune.
Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins, the adjutant general of Mississippi, and Maj. Gen. Catherine S. Lutz, assistant adjutant general-Air National Guard, thanked employers and their representatives for doing their part in keeping its military members ready to defend this country by providing the time needed for troops to serve.
