On National Signing Day, two area athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to run cross country and track and field with the University of Mississippi and Delta State University. Bingham Wikoff, a senior at St. Stanislaus College, signed his LOI with the Ole Miss Rebels while Anna Poteet, a senior at Hancock High School, put her signature on her LOI to Delta State.
Both runners are in their final legs of a decorated high school career.
Wikoff is a decorated cross country/track and field runner who recently led the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws to the Class 4A state title in November.
Wikoff was the 2012 individual state champion in cross country after finishing as state runner-up in 2011. He is a four-time All-State cross country runner for the Rocks.
On the track, Wikoff is just as dominant. He runs the 3200m and 1600m runs for SSC. In 2012, Wikoff was the silver medalist in the Class 4A 3200m run and was the 2011 bronze medalist in the Class 4A 1600m run.
Wikoff is the first runner from the area to sign with Ole Miss since former SSC thinclad Kyle Lewis in 2004. Wikoff is expected to compete in both cross country and track and field for the Rebels and first-year head coach Brian O’Neal. Poteet is a four-year letter winner in cross country and track and field for the Lady Hawks. In November, Poteet earned All-State honors as she finished 12th overall in a field of 142 runners in the Class 6A state meet. She led the Lady Hawks to a ninth place overall finish at the state meet.
Poteet is also a distance runner for the Lady Hawks track and field team in the spring. Poteet becomes the first runner to sign with a four-year university since Evie Savage signed with Mississippi State University in 2011. Poteet is expected to compete in both cross country and track and field for the Lady Statesmen.
