Pass sweeps Sumrall; Bay, Lady Hawks & SSC all win on the court

Area high school basketball action is entering the final stretch before the various division tournaments begin on Monday, Feb. 11. The Pass Christian Pirates swept a pair of games in division action while the Rock-a-chaws of St. Stanislaus held onto their lead in Division 8-4A with a win over Vancleave. Bay High and Hancock stepped out of division play for their Tuesday night games.
The Bay High Tigers (12-9, 6-3) defeated the Long Beach Bearcats 78-26 behind four players who scored double-digit points. Justus Williams led the way with 21 points followed by Taylor McCollister with 14, Kelton Piernas 13 and Kenny Perkins with 10.
The Lady Hawks of Hancock (20-5) defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Vancleave 63-29 in non-division action. The Lady Hawks were led by Alissa Adam with 17 points followed by Leigh Beaver and Savannah Saucier with 10 points each.
The Pass Christian Pirates swept a pair of varsity games against Division 8-3A foe Sumrall on Tuesday night. The Lady Pirates (20-5) defeated Sumrall 56-24 as Aleigha Bowser tallied 19 points and Aliyah Bell had 13. In the boys’ game, the Pirates (18-7, 11-0) routed Sumrall 84-45. Dimitri Cook scored 29 points followed by Christian Alford with 14, Ashton Haulk 13 and Tyvon Williams with 11.
The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws held onto their slim lead in the Division 8-4A race with a 55-22 win over the Vancleave Bulldogs. Gatlin Fay scored 19 points to lead SSC which improved to 12-12 overall and 7-2 in division play.
In upcoming action, the Bay High Tigers will travel to Hancock on Tuesday, February 5th and host Pass Christian on Friday, February 8th to close out the regular season. The Hancock Hawks host Bay High on February 5th and the boys’ team travels to West Harrison on February 8th while the Lady Hawks will host Presbyterian Christian. The Our Lady Academy Crescents are set to host the Lady Pirates of Pass Christian in their regular season finale on February 5th.
The Pass Christian Pirates will travel to Bay High for a girls and boys game on February 8th. The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws are set to host Harrison Central to close out the regular season on February 8th.
Division tournaments are set to begin on Monday, February 11th. The 6A tournament is being held at Harrison Central while the 4A tournament is being held at Greene County.
