Waveland police on Thursday arrested a pair of Hattiesburg residents for a shoplifting scheme at the Waveland Wal-Mart, Waveland Police Chief Kenny Hurt said.
"We received a call from Wal-Mart's security, reporting they were holding two possible shoplifting suspects. Investigator Matt Sekinger – along with officers David Buckley and Chance Seals – responded," and discovered a fairly elaborate shoplifting scheme, Hurt said.
"Dontenue Sanford, 21, was arrested and charged with shoplifting and three counts of possession of counterfeit instruments," Hurt said. "Sanford's bond was set at $31.000. "Sanford's accomplice, Bryan Mahomes, 22, was arrested and charged with shoplifting. His bond was set at $1,000. Both men had Hattiesburg addresses."
The suspects allegedly used special equipment and materials to duplicate store receipts from actual purchases, then use the receipts to return shoplifted items for cash, Sekinger said.
