OLA advances to Class 1A/2A/3A South State final, Lady Tigers fall

The Our Lady Academy Crescents (15-4-2) shutout Franklin County in the second round of the state playoffs in girls’ soccer 7-0 Friday evening in Bay St. Louis.
The win moved the Crescents to their 14th consecutive South State final. OLA has won 13 South State championships and 10 state championships since 2000.
Against Franklin County, Tiffany Jones and Alex Kowalski each scored twice. Maggie Kowalski, Georgia Williams and Brittany Laurent all scored one goal. Savannah Lacoste preserved the shutout in goal.
The Bay High Lady Tigers were eliminated by the Lady Wildcats of Greene County 3-1 in a very physical Class 4A state playoff game.
The Lady Wildcats got up on Bay High 3-0 with goals coming off a player deflection and off the post. The third goal for Greene County came when the Lady Tigers pushed their defense up to assist on offense late in the game and the Lady Wildcats snuck one in behind the defense.
The Lady Tigers’ lone goal came off a penalty kick by Hailey Furlan who finished the season with 18 goals and 13 assists. Merritt Baria tallied 10 goals and eight assists and Amanda Solome finished with nine goals and eight assists. Bay High completes their season with an overall record of 8-9-2.
The Crescents played Sacred Heart of Hattiesburg for the Class 1A/2A/3A South State championship on Tuesday evening at OLA.
