Lady Tigers clinch Division 8-4A in soccer

The high school soccer season winds down this week and the state playoffs begin on Jan. 22. The Lady Tigers of Bay High clinched the Division 8-4A title with their 8-0 shutout win over Vancleave last Friday night.
Hailey Furlan tallied a hat trick and also added three assists. Merritt Baria contributed two goals and one assist while Amanda Solome had a goal and an assist. Jenna Duncan and Erica Hart each tallied a goal in the win.
Kat Kyriakoudes and Tori O’Neal each recorded an assist. Kendyl Adam recorded the shutout in goal for the Lady Tigers.
In the boys’ game, the Tigers shutout the Bulldogs of Vancleave 3-0 to improve to 15-1-2 and remain undefeated in Division 8-4A play at 4-0. Michael Stringer, D’Quan Lewis and Patrick Ponder all scored goals in the win.
The Hancock Lady Hawks earned their first win of the year with a 3-2 shootout win over the Lady Warriors of D’Iberville. Jordan Rayburn and Katherine Grace each scored for the Lady Hawks.
The OLA Crescents (8-4-2, 3-1) defeated the Lady Pirates of Pass Christian 3-1 on Friday night. Maggie Kowalski, Tiffany Jones and Laura Taylor all scored in the win.
The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws defeated the Poplarville Hornets 3-1 in a game that was shortened by the weather. Evan Lundgren scored twice while Logan Walton added the other goal.
In upcoming action, the Bay High Tigers will travel to play St. Stanislaus on Friday, Jan. 18 to close out the division schedule and will travel to Hancock to tangle with the Hawks on Jan. 19 to conclude the regular season. The Pass Christian Pirates host Resurrection on Jan. 18 while OLA travels to St. Patrick on Jan. 18.
