Tigers sweep Poplarville in soccer

High school soccer action is quickly coming to a close for the regular season. There is just one more week of action before the state playoffs begin on Jan. 22.
The Bay High Tigers continued their winning ways with a 4-0 shutout win over the Hornets of Poplarville on Tuesday evening in high school soccer action. The Lady Tigers kept the winning ways going with a 5-1 win over the Lady Hornets to complete the sweep in Division 8-4A action. The Hancock Hawks were swept by the Admirals of Gulfport while SSC dropped their game with Vancleave. The Crescents of OLA scored a 1-0 win over Long Beach while the Pass Christian Pirates split with West Harrison.
The Tigers (14-1-2, 3-0) maintained their stranglehold on Division 8-4A and their focus on a possible repeat for the Class 4A state title with their convincing 4-0 win over Poplarville.
Michael Stringer collected a goal and an assist for the Tigers while Colby Krost , D’Quan Lewis and Ethan Loston all added goals. The shutout in goal was recorded by Grant Adams.
The Lady Tigers scored a 5-1 win over Poplarville with Hailey Furlan collecting a hat trick and two assists. Amanda Solome had two goals and two assists while Merritt Baria had an assist. The Lady Tigers are 2-0 in division play.
The Admirals of Gulfport swept the Hawks of Hancock on Tuesday evening. In the girls’ game, the Lady Hawks were shutout 9-0 while the Admirals defeated the Hawks 3-1 in boys’ action.
The Crescents defeated Long Beach 1-0 on a goal from Georgia Williams. Savannah Lacoste preserved the shutout in goal. OLA improved to 7-4-2 overall with a 2-1 record in division play.
The Lady Pirates of Pass Christian were shutout by West Harrison 3-0 on Tuesday night but the boys’ team reversed that decision as they blanked the Hurricanes 3-0. Juris Stutts scored twice and Zack Robinson added the other goal for Pass Christian. The Pirates improved to 15-2-3 on the season.
The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws (4-9-3, 1-2) dropped their Division 8-4A contest with Vancleave 4-3. The Rocks received two goals in the first half from Evan Lundgren as SSC went into intermission down 3-2. The Rocks’ Dustin Bosch tied the game at 3-3 with a goal at the 23:45 mark of the second half. Vancleave reclaimed the lead for good with 8:32 left in the game.
In upcoming action, the Bay High Tigers will host Poplarville on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and travel to SSC on Friday, Jan. 18 before they complete the regular season on Jan. 19 at Hancock. The Hancock Hawks travel to D’Iberville on January 15th and host Bay High on Jan. 19 to complete the regular season.
The OLA Crescents will host Resurrection on January 15th and travel to St. Patrick on January 18th to close out their regular season. The Pass Christian Pirates travel to St. Patrick on Jan. 15 and host Resurrection on Jan. 18 to end the regular season. The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws travel to Vancleave on Jan. 15 and host Bay High in their regular season finale on Jan. 18.
