Del Ray Beach, Florida- No. 2 William Carey advances to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship with a thrilling penalty kick shootout win over Hastings College in second round action of the 2017 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship.

Carey fell behind in the first half on a bizarre goal in the 35th minute of play. After being whistled for a foul, the Crusaders were attempting to setup defensively when Nick Hinds raced in a quickly played the ball into the goal from the top of the box to put Hasting up 1-0.

In the second half, Carey regrouped and Chance Bourdene (SR/Flowood, Miss.) tied the game at one when he knocked home Michael Conejero (JR/Spain)'s cross in the 49th minute.

WCU pressed home the attack as they outshot Hastings, 11 to 3 in the second half unfortunately WCU was unable to find the go-ahead goal in regulation and after a pair of scoreless overtimes, the game headed to penalty kicks.

WCU shot first in the penalty kicks and Matt Redgrave (SR/England) and Bryant Toro traded goals in the first round. After saves by each keeper in round two, WCU fell behind 2-1 after a third round goal by Joe White. Needing a goal Michael Conejero delivered to keep Carey's hopes alive in the fourth round.

In the fifth round it was Joaquin Ruiz who faced a must make and delivered a brilliant goal. Hastings had a chance to close Carey out but Grant Adam (SR/Waveland, Miss.) forced Nick Hinds into the miss to tie things up a three. James Cooper (SO/Norfolk, England) capitalized on the momentum to put Carey back in front then Adam delivered in goal stopping Daniel Simonis shot to secure the match.

With the win, WCU advances to the quarterfinals for the second straight year and will take on No. 10 Marymount tomorrow at 4:00 pm (EST).
