The area basketball season is set to take a brief holiday break for the Thanksgiving weekend.
However, some teams have been in action. On the hardwood.
On Monday, November 20th the Hancock Hawks (2-3) stopped a surging St. Stanislaus (2-4) squad 45-40.
It appeared that the Hawks had the Rocks on the ropes until late in the third period when SSC closed the frame with a 16-6 run to make the score 39-34.
The Hawks used efficient free throw shooting in the late fourth period to ice the game.
SSC head coach Aaron Dunklin commented, "Anytime you miss 18 free throws, give up 18 offensive rebounds and have 10 turnovers in a half, it is very difficult to win the game. We cannot allow an opponent to have 25 extra possessions and expect to be successful. We will learn a lot about ourselves with how we cone back from this loss."
Luke Ladner led the Rocks with 18 points.
Hancock head coach Charles Moore stated, " We got our football players back this week so we are looking somewhat disjointed as we try to get them acclimated. We have to be adaptable to be successful."
Kelin Acker paced Hancock with 12 points.
The Lady Hawks of Hancock (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season with a loss to Moss Point on Monday.
Hancock head coach Jamie Sisco stated, "Moss Point did a good job of disrupting our flow on the court. We had played well defensively and executed well on offense up until tonight. We had 33 turnovers which gives the opposition 33 extra possessions and that leads to foul trouble.
The Bay High Tigers remain 0-2 while Pass Christian is 0-4 on the young season.
In other girls action, Bay High stays at 1-3 and OLA is 0-2. Pass Christian (5-2) defeated Ocean Springs 42-33 last Friday.
On Monday, Pass Christian defeated Picayune 35-23. Maleah Bullard led Pass Christian with 14 points.
In upcoming action, Bay High returns to action in the PRCC Classic on Saturday, November 24th and play at home against Ocean Springs on Tuesday, November 28th.
The Hancock Hawks also play in the PRCC Classic and return home on Tuesday against d'Iberville.
SSC will host Hancock on Tuesday, December 5th while OLA travels to Vancleave on Tuesday.
See you at the games!
