Gulfport Police arrested a Hancock County man Sunday after a 64-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed in an apparent hit-and-run near Hwy 49 and Airport Rd in Gulfport.
Police say they responded to a call around 2:38 a.m. on Nov 5 where a man was found on the side of the road. The man, who's name has not yet been released, later died of injuries believed to be sustained by the incident, police said.
Video surveillance obtained by investigators revealed the man was struck while walking in the area. It also showed the suspects vehicle, which was described as a maroon SUV consistent with a Chevrolet Trailblazer, flee the scene.
Police say, Tyler Dwain Clemons, 26, of Diamondhead later that day turned himself into the Gulfport Police Department stating he was involved in the accident.
In a press release officials said, “Gulfport Detectives located the maroon Chevrolet Trailblazer at an undisclosed address in Hancock County.”
Clemons is being charged on one count of felony leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
He was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility to be held in lieu of a $100,000.00 bond set by Gulfport Municipal Court Judge Fant Walker.
