Pass Christian Pirates win over the Hurricanes, Bay & Stanislaus stumble

With the Hancock Hawks taking last Friday evening off, there were only three area high school teams in action on the gridiron. The Bay High Tigers came so close but stumbled against the visiting Lawrence County Cougars while the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws fell on the road to the St. Martin Yellow Jackets. The Pass Christian Pirates were the only ones to find the win column last week.
The Pirates (1-3) got their first win of the 2017 season with their 21-7 victory over West Harrison last Friday.
The Pirates were paced on offense by Tionne Frost who rushed for 262 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries. Dustin Allison added a one-yard scoring run while Gage Scruggs scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown to complete Pass Christian's scoring.
Terre Johnson was all over the defensive side of the ball for the Pirates. He recorded 10 tackles that included seven solos. He also have four tackles for loss which was made up of three sacks. He also added two, quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two blocked punts.
Tyson Scott added 12 tackles with nine being solos while Nate Stewart added nine tackles. Gordon Ward contributed eight tackles.
The Pirates will be idle this Friday. They will take to the road on September 22nd to tangle with Sumrall.
The Bay High Tigers (0-4) came oh-so-close last Friday evening against the Lawrence County Cougars. The Tigers (0-4) fell to the Cougars 40-37 in their homecoming game at Joe D. McCullough Stadium/Tank Williams Field.
Jaylan Wilson led the Tigers' offensive attack with 189 yards rushing with three touchdowns on 24 carries. He also threw for 103 yards and a touchdown on 8-for-16 passing. His touchdown runs covered 21, 13 and 15 yards. His touchdown pass went for 13 yards to Kaleb Leavens. John Russo scooped up a loose ball and returned it for a score to close out the scoring for Bay High.
On defense, the Tigers were paced by John Russo with 22 tackles with 13 being solo, a sack, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Kyre Hodges-Campello added 17 tackles with 12 solos while JT Route collected 10 tackles with seven being solos and three sacks. Skyler Hysell also had 10 tackles.
Wilson and Sema'j Robertson each had an interception.
The Tigers travel to South Jones (3-1) this Friday evening. Last week, South Jones topped Northeast Jones 41-14.
The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws (1-2) dropped a defensive battle last Friday evening 9-7 on the road against the St. Martin Yellow Jackets.
It was a game that saw each team score just one touchdown.
Jake Greer threw for 147 yards but Cahill Marlowe found the end zone for SSC on an eight-yard carry.
Harrison Brewer led the receivers with four catches for 56 yards while Thomas Williams had two catches for 39 yards.
Leo Roos paced the defense with 12 tackles including three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. JD Rutherford had nine tackles with three for a loss and a fumble recovery while Lewie Negrotto had no e stops with two for a loss and a fumble recovery. Nick Hava added eight tackles in his first action since recovering from an injury.
The Rocks open their home season 'between the walls' at the Brother Philip Memorial Athletic Complex against the Pearl River Central Blue Devils on Friday night. PRC was off last Friday but the week before they fell to Forrest County AHS 21-18.
