Bay, Hancock & OLA all get volleyball wins to start the season

The 2017 high school volleyball season started off on the right foot with all three local teams gaining wins on the court.
The Bay High Lady Tigers defeated d'Iberville in five games on Tuesday while Hancock defeated Madison Central on the road on Thursday evening. OLA traveled to Oak Grove on Tuesday and swept the Lady Warriors.
The Lady Tigers (1-1) opened their season with a win over d'Iberville in five games 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 17-25 and 15-10.
Bay High head coach Kellie Smith commented, "We started off strong but lost our focus in games three and four. In the fifth game, we responded to the challenge."
Taylor Bonvillion recorded 20 assists, eight kills and five aces while Andy Franklin had 10 kills. T'mea Booth had five aces and five kills and Rhea Lymuel had seven kills. Yaya Singleton tallied 12 digs.
The Lady Tigers dropped their match on Thursday to Gulfport at home in three games 14-25, 19-25 and 13-25.
The Hancock Lady Hawks followed up their three set win on Monday over Pass Christian with a four set win over Madison Central on the road 25-19, 25-11, 21-25 and 25-21.
The Crescents of OLA opened their 2017 season with a three set win over Oak Grove 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12.
Rebecca Walk and and Emma Funk each recorded 13 kills while Walk added five aces and two blocks. Funk also tallied seven blocks. Hannah Gest tallied 30 assists while Lizzie Mirandy added eight kills.
In upcoming action, Bay High is playing in the Pass Christian tournament today and travels to Harrison Central on Tuesday, August 15th and Gulfport on Thursday, August 17th. The Lady Hawks are playing in the Set It Off tournament in Ridgeland today and will not play again until they host Presbyterian Christian School on August 21st. The Crescents are also playing in the Set It Off tournament in Ridgeland today and will travel to Ocean Springs on Tuesday and Vancleave on Thursday. See you at the games!
