The search for a missing Hancock County man has broadened into Harrison County, but although some clues have surfaced, there has been no trace of local resident Gary Hope..
Hope, 60, of Waveland was last seen on July 20.
Hancock County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Don Bass said Thursday that the Harrison County Sheriff's Office has taken an active role in the investigation.
"The truck had apparently been in the De Soto National Forest for a week or two," Bass said. "Someone noticed it and called it in to authorities. We are now working with Harrison County since that is where the truck was located."
Bass said authorities discovered a receipt for a new bicycle in Hope's truck, but the bike was not located.
Additionally, Bass said, Hope's phone was also recovered in the truck.
Originally, police believed Hope may be in the St. Tammany Parish area because the cell phone "pinged" a tower in that area, Bass said.
The phone also "pinged" a tower near De Soto National Forest, he said.
Bass said Hope's home on Bayou Lacroix Road was searched and deputies did not find any obvious clues.
"There was nothing indicating that he packed up and left," Bass said.
Anyone with information about Hope's disappearance can call Hancock County Central Dispatch at 228-255-9191 or the Harrison County Sheriff's Office at 228-896-3000.
